Robert W. Smith
Robert
W. Smith is a shareholder in Silverman, Smith & Rice. He graduated
from the University of Indiana in 1969. He served four years in
the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He graduated cum
laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1979. He has practiced
law in Kalamazoo, Michigan since 1980. He joined with Alan H. Silverman
to form the predecessor to Silverman, Smith & Rice in 1993.
Bob has a broad range of litigation experience including a wrongful
death jury verdict exceeding $1,000,000. Bob is admitted to practice
before all of the local State and Federal Courts along with the
Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the Sixth
Circuit Court of Appeals. He now focuses his practice on commercial
litigation (including real estate, construction, and employment
litigation), business transactions (including mergers, acquisitions,
and sales), and assisting business owners with bank workouts, foreclosures,
and refinancing.
Bob moved to Kalamazoo after being honorably discharged from the
service. He and his wife Colette have been married for 29 years.
They have two adult daughters. Bob enjoys playing golf, canoeing,
and kayaking. He has been on the Texas Township Tax Board of Review
since 1994 and for the last six years, has served as its chairman.
He also participates regularly in the Kalamazoo County Bar Association
pro bono legal aid clinics.
