Alan H. Silverman

Alan H. Silverman has spent nearly forty years helping clients obtain, protect and grow their assets. Alan has extensive experience in the areas of business planning, commercial and class action litigation, and asset preservation including estate planning. Within the recent past he has represented numerous clients in the purchase or sale of businesses involving both publicly traded companies and substantial privately held entities. He has written and lectured for the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education and is a member of the American, Michigan, and Illinois Bar Associations. He is licensed to practice law in both Michigan and Illinois and admitted to all courts of both states, as well as the United States District Courts for Michigan and Illinois and the Sixth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. Alan is certified as a Facilitative Mediator having completed the Mediation Training for Facilitative Mediation in Civil Litigation Cases.

He received his Bachelors Degree from Hobart College (1963) and his law degree from St. Johns University School of Law (1966), where he was Publications Editor of the St. Johns University Law Review, a prestigious scholarly legal publication, Editor of the St. Thomas More Institute for Legal Research, and a member of the Dean's List. Upon graduation he was awarded a grant from the Ford Foundation. In July, 1968, Alan moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where he formed Silverman, Smith & Rice.

Alan and his wife Judi are avid sailing enthusiasts and cruise Lake Michigan in summer and Florida and the Caribbean in winter. When not sailing, Alan and Judi can be found cheering on their favorite big school, the University of Michigan, or their favorite small school, Hobart College. They are both active in a variety of non-profit organizations in both South Haven and Kalamazoo. Most significant, Alan and Judi are the proud grandparents of five, including one year old twins, all of whom keep them very active and very young.
